Files stay on your device

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser. They are not uploaded to Stay Local Tools servers for processing. Because the work happens on your device, your files stay with you unless you download or share them yourself.

Note: the website itself still loads normal web files, and may use analytics or ads later. The promise here is about the files and text you put into these tools.

How to Use

  1. Press Choose Files and select one or more JPG, PNG or WebP images.
  2. Move the Quality slider to choose how much to compress. 80 is a good starting point.
  3. Press Compress. Your browser does the work, so nothing is sent to a server.
  4. Check the new size and how much space you saved for each image.
  5. Press Download for one image, or Download All to get every image at once.

How compression works here

This tool redraws each image and saves it again using your chosen quality setting. For JPG and WebP, a lower quality removes detail that is hard to notice, which makes the file smaller. PNG is different: it always keeps every pixel exactly the same, so its file size depends on how much repeating detail the image has, not on the quality slider.

Your format is kept

A JPG file stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG, and a WebP stays a WebP. This tool only makes the file smaller — it does not change the format. If you also want to change the format, use JPG to WebP, WebP to JPG or PNG to WebP instead.

Choosing a quality

  • 90–100: almost no visible change, with a modest size saving for JPG and WebP.
  • 75–89: a good balance for most photos.
  • Below 75: the smallest files, with more visible loss of detail.

Why compressing on your own device helps

Your images are read, redrawn and saved again entirely inside your browser, without being sent to a compression service first. Each file stays with you unless you choose to download the smaller copy.

Questions and Answers

For JPG and WebP, yes — a lower quality setting removes more detail to make a smaller file. At quality 80 or above, most photos look very close to the original. PNG is compressed without losing any quality at all.
