Older or auto-generated subtitle files often carry extra markup: HTML-style tags like<font>, <i> and <b>, style codes from the ASS/SSA format such as {\an8}, stray entities, and inconsistent spacing or blank lines.
Why old files have this
Many subtitle files were exported from video editing or fansub software that adds styling tags for its own player, or from a rough conversion between formats. These tags can look like extra characters or broken formatting when the file is used somewhere else.
What is always preserved
This tool only removes formatting and structural noise. It never removes the words of your subtitles, and it never changes subtitle timing — only the text content is cleaned.

Renumbering gives every subtitle a clean, sequential number starting from 1. This is usually a good idea after removing empty subtitles, since it avoids gaps in the numbering.
