Files stay on your device

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser. They are not uploaded to Stay Local Tools servers for processing. Because the work happens on your device, your files stay with you unless you download or share them yourself.

Note: the website itself still loads normal web files, and may use analytics or ads later. The promise here is about the files and text you put into these tools.

How to Use

  1. Press Choose File and select one PDF.
  2. Wait while your browser scans the document for embedded images.
  3. Review the extracted images, with their size and dimensions.
  4. Download images one at a time, or press Download All to get every image at once.

Embedded images, not page screenshots

A PDF page can contain embedded image resources — photos, scanned figures, logos — placed alongside text and vector graphics. This tool looks for those embedded images and extracts them. It does not turn each page into a picture; a page with no embedded images produces no results here, even though the page itself may be full of text or drawings.

How extraction works

Your browser opens the PDF and looks at each page for image resources. Each one found is decoded and re-drawn as a new image, then saved as a PNG file. Because the image is decoded and redrawn rather than copied byte for byte, the download is not always identical to the original embedded data — but the picture itself is not degraded by this step.

Images reused on several pages

Some PDFs place the same image — a logo or a background — on many pages. This tool recognizes when an extracted image is identical to one already found and lists it once, noting every page it appears on, instead of exporting duplicate copies.

What this tool does not extract

A small number of PDFs use images in ways this tool does not read yet, such as 1-bit stencil masks used only to shape a fill, or images embedded directly inside a page's content stream instead of as a separate resource. Those are not counted as extractable images. This tool honestly reports how many images it found rather than guessing.

Why extracting on your own device helps

Your PDF is read and its images are decoded entirely inside your browser. There is no upload step, so your file and the images inside it stay with you unless you choose to download them yourself.
