Files stay on your device

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser. They are not uploaded to Stay Local Tools servers for processing. Because the work happens on your device, your files stay with you unless you download or share them yourself.

Note: the website itself still loads normal web files, and may use analytics or ads later. The promise here is about the files and text you put into these tools.

How to Use

  1. Press Choose Files and select one or more JPEG photos.
  2. Your browser reads the metadata right away, so you can see what each photo contains.
  3. Check for the "Location data found" notice — it means the photo has GPS coordinates.
  4. Press Remove Metadata for a single photo, or Remove Metadata from All for every photo.
  5. Download the cleaned photo. It looks exactly the same — only the hidden data is gone.

What is EXIF?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a small block of information that cameras and phones save inside a photo, alongside the picture itself. It can include the camera make and model, the date and time, the orientation the photo was taken in, the software used to save it, and sometimes GPS coordinates.

Why this matters for privacy

If a photo has GPS coordinates and you share it online or send it to someone, you may be sharing the exact place it was taken without meaning to. This tool reads that information locally so you can see it before deciding what to do, and clearly flags GPS coordinates whenever they are present.

How metadata is removed

Most tools remove metadata by redrawing the whole picture, which can change its quality slightly. This tool works differently: it removes only the metadata block from the file and copies the rest of the picture data exactly as it was. Nothing about the image itself is touched, so there is no quality loss and no re-compression.

Why checking metadata on your own device helps

Reading and removing EXIF data both happen inside your browser. Your photo is never sent anywhere to be checked, which matters most for the kind of information EXIF can contain.
